With Eyes That See

From the desk of our beloved intern, Amanda Bunce…

Dear Rose Park,

Cats, eagles, mantis shrimp, and sheep all have spectacular vision abilities. Cats can see in the dark, eagles can see a mile and a half away, mantis shrimp have an advanced color recognition for the ocean floor, and sheep have wide and narrow pupils that allow them to see a wider field of vision than any other animal as they are constantly alert for predators while grazing with their head down.

What can you see? Are you wishing you could see better in this dark time? Are you wishing you could see what is further ahead?  Or that you could distinguish the difference between good and bad more easily?  Or that it would be easier to see God working in our world among us?

Well, if God can design the eyes of cats, eagles, shrimp, and grazing animals with the ability to see exactly what they need for their habitat, I think we can confidently say that God has given us the eyesight for what we need to see as well. If God wanted us to see further ahead or a sign/miracle we think we desperately needed, God would.

In a world filled with so much pain, brokenness, confusion, and lies I can see something so much stronger. I do not have to squint, strain or fumble about in the dark desperately looking for hope in front of me as I see you, Rose Park. I see a shepherd filled with grace and truth with a flock that keeps giving to their community and world from Hand-2-Hand ministry, Operation Christmas Child boxes, bringing Thanksgiving meals to those without family in the area, and in your many other gracious and loving actions. Those actions allow the world and our community to see that Christ is still with us.

If we want the world to see Christ, if we want the world to see God still working, if we want the world to see God still cares for His people then we must keep bringing Christ into the world through our actions. It is a daunting task to help the world see Christ in us, but for our own doubts: God will provide enough light for us to see during the dark journey, God will help us see enough for this moment and time instead of further ahead, and we will continue to see God loving us and our many brothers and sisters.

While the world is searching and straining for truth and love, I see you Rose Park. I thank you for letting me see Christ in you. Where are you seeing Christ in the world?

Your grateful intern,

Amanda
